In 2007, Kingspan Insulation Indonesia completed the Group’s largest project globally with its installation in a commercial warehouse facility for Toyota Astra Motors Spare Parts Division located in Cibitung in the outskirts of Jakarta.
In a market cluttered with low cost imitation products, Kingspan Insulation Indonesia was able to secure the project which demanded quality and fire safety in its materials to ensure safe warehousing of its valuable contents.
The Site Manager of the project witnessed first-hand evidence of Kingspan AIR-CELL®’s quality attributes when an electrical fire ignited on the roof as a result of a welding incident. When the wire casing of a welder was stripped off, exposed live wires sparked against the metal roof, burning through the cladding. Despite also igniting the Kingspan AIR-CELL® installed underneath, the fire was contained and isolated to only a small area as the fire retardant properties of Kingspan AIR-CELL® forced the flames to self-extinguish preventing any further damage.
“We were lucky using AIR-CELL® and not an imitation product,” he says. “My experience in similar welding accidents in other projects installed with imitation products has not been so fortunate.”
Kingspan AIR-CELL® also delivered significant thermal performance benefits. On a day that recorded an external ground temperature of 40ºC, the ground temperature inside the facility was only 30ºC.
